The Vita Mix2007-09-05This is a man’s blender, built to get-er done. However, women are allowed to use this blender. This blender has a higher amp rating (11.5 amps) than my 9000 BTU window air conditioning unit (9.0 amps). I classify this blender as a power tool, I recommend treating it with respect. I have only made juices and smoothies with it. It does a lot more, but because I have no experience with it in other areas, I can’t comment on anything but with respect to juices and smoothies. Blending stuff This blender does not separate the seeds or pulp from the juice, it all become one paste or puree, and it does it fast. The only draw back is sometimes depending on what is put in it, only the bottom portion of the contents of the blender will get blended. The rest of the food just stays at the top of the blender wondering what happened, it will need to be tamped down into the blades with a special rod. Sometimes, the only way to get things to blend well is to add some liquid. This could be a draw back if you don’t like diluting you juices or smoothies. If you blend to long you will start to heat up the contents. This is not desirable for juices or smoothies. These are not big problems, I don’t mind tamping and the heating is trivial unless you get carried away. The Vita mix comes with two blending containers, one for dry food and one for wet food. I try to use the right one, but for juices and smoothies they both work. Clean up This blender is easy to clean. The blender cleans itself. When you done blending food just put some water and a small amount of soap and blend at high speed. Sometimes you have to clean the container by hand. We have put our blending container in the dish washer many times, with no harm. But I recommend following the manufactures’ method of letting the blender clean itself. What I wish the Vita Mix would do to improve its blender My only criticism is that at times it can get pretty loud. I really don’t know why, I’ll leave that problem up to Vita Mix. Conclusion The Vita Mix is a great smoothie maker, every kitchen should have one. |
